Looking Back at 2016

Being a small agency doesn’t always afford us the opportunity to take a step back and reflect on how far we’ve come, or on what refinements can be made to how we work moving forward. 2016 was a year of growth, reflection, and laying the groundwork for what is already shaping up to be an exciting year and we wanted to share a few highlights from the year that was.

In April of last year, Shopify introduced its first Partner and Developer conference, Unite, a two-day event that brought together Shopify Partners from all over the globe to collaborate and explore the future of commerce. Having the opportunity to meet partners from agencies around the world was an experience we won’t soon forget. You don’t realize how often you get stuck in your own bubble, and being able to learn from (and commiserate with) other Partners was pretty refreshing. We’re looking forward to seeing what this year’s event has in store for us.

We are proud to have hit (and surpassed) the 100 mark for five-star reviews on our Shopify Experts listing. This was an important milestone for us, as it serves not only as a testament to the quality of our work but also makes us one of the highest ranked Experts in Canada. It represents years of work dedicated to our one common goal - to create beautiful commerce experiences for our clients.

With growth often comes the need to assess the way you operate and refine in order to streamline your processes. In 2016 our management team spent a lot of time evaluating the way we do business and adopted a more agile approach to our projects. This has been a significant improvement for us and we’ve seen a steep decline in time spent on managing process and more time devoted to what is really important - our clients.

The introduction of Shopify Plus last year represented a monumental shift in the way commerce merchants do business. With 24/7 dedicated support, unlimited bandwidth, zero transactions fees, and a host of other game-changing benefits, upgrading to Plus is a no-brainer for any high volume merchant. We were also proud to be named one of only a handful of Shopify Plus Experts under the new program.

While we worked on slightly fewer projects last year than in years previous, the projects were far greater in complexity and scope. The introduction of ShopifyPlus gave us the flexibility to customize websites even further using their open API, increasing the extent to which we could offer solutions tailored to the specific needs of our clients. We also dipped our toes into the world of app development, further enhancing our ability to solve any back-end issues that clients may have experienced on other platforms.

What do you get when you put over a hundred developers in a room and tell them to network? Surprisingly, a lot more conversation and fun than we could have expected! In October our team started laying the groundwork for what turned out to be a hugely successful event geared towards the developers in Ottawa. #DevOtt was created to take our creative thinkers and coders out from behind the confines of their cubicles to learn from leaders in our field (and have an awesome time doing it). You can read more about the event and register to be on the list for our upcoming meetups here.
